The Rheem SP20172 is an OEM flammable vapor (FV) sensor replacement kit designed for use in Rheem, Ruud, Richmond, PerfectFit, GE, and Hotpoint FVIR-compliant water heaters. This sensor plays a critical role in safety management by detecting the presence of flammable vapors in the vicinity of the combustion chamber. Upon detection, it signals the control system to disable the gas valve and prevent burner ignition, mitigating the risk of fire or explosion.
